  Research Associates: Climate Modeling and Crop Modeling at UM 

  Job Description:These positions will support grant projects to develop and apply advanced regional climate models toward improving climate-crop interaction, quantitative precipitation forecast, seasonal climate prediction, and drought outlook. The Assistant Modelers will assist the project leaders in achieving project goals. Primary job responsibilities will include improving model physics representation, developing model code, preparing input data, running regional climate model simulations, analyzing model outputs, and preparation of graphical, including GIS, and written summaries of results.

  Qualifications:Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences with strong understanding of climate and crop dynamics. Proficiency (including extensive coding experience) in using FORTRAN 90 and C programming languages in UNIX and Linux environments. Strong mathematical background and parallel supercomputing skill preferred. Experience in running mesoscale regional weather/climate models encouraged. Experience with diagnostic analysis of data from global and/or regional climate model simulations desired. Experience with the use of GIS for model data pre- and post-processing, and the preparation of graphical and written summaries of results. Strong aptitude for working in a team environment and willingness to work in a supportive role. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  Availability:Immediately available and extendable over 2 or more years, depending on funding availability.

  Salary:Commensurate with experience, $45,000 minimum

  Deadline:The position will remain open until suitable candidate is found.
