CAS Institute of Atmospheric Physics Is Looking to Recruit High-caliber Talents

The Institute of Atmospheric Physics is a public institution directly under Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). It is the top academic institute devoted to meteorological science and also the first of its kind in China's modern history. It has grown into a comprehensive research institute that covers all branches of atmospheric science. The Institute is devoted to studying and exploring the new laws about the atmosphere movement and the interaction between the atmosphere and the environment concerning physics, chemistry, biology and human experience; it provides advanced theories, methods and techniques on monitoring, predicting and adjusting the weather, climate and environment. Moreover, it trains first-class talents in the field and serves the sustainable development of the economy and society as well as national security.  

To enhance our capacity for independent innovation in relevant fields, promote the combination between the major programs and disciplines on the one hand and talent training on the other, strengthen efforts to attract and train innovative talents and continuously improve the talent structure, we are looking to recruit outstanding talents in and beyond China. The details are as follows: 

I. Vacancies and Requirements 

 (I) Academic Talents 

The applicants shall enter candidate selections for the "Thousand Talents Program" of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee or for the Class A of CAS Pioneer Hundred Talents Program (see the attachment for relevant requirements). The following majors are preferred: 

(1) Global and regional numerical weather forecast 

(2) Radar and meteorological satellite data assimilation 

(3) Climate model physical parameterization  

(4) Applied meteorology 

(5) Climate change and adaptation  

(6) Air pollution and its heath effect 

(II) Technological Talents 

The applicants shall be outstanding young and middle-aged talents who engage in R & D of engineering technologies related to atmospheric science, construction of major science equipment, R & D of instruments and equipment as well as related models. They shall enter candidate selections for Class B of CAS Pioneer Hundred Talents Program. The following majors are preferred: 

(1) R & D of numerical weather forecast mode and data assimilation technology  

(2) R & D of high performance computing and coupling framework technology 

(3) R & D of meteorological service technology 

(4) Atmospheric detection technology and R & D of related equipment 

(5) Detection of the physical and chemical structure of the atmospheric boundary layer and modeling technology  

(III) Promising Talents 

They shall enter candidate selections for the Youth Thousand Talents Program of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee or for the Class C of CAS Pioneer Hundred Talents Program. See the attachment for more details.  

II. Remuneration and Supportive Measures 

 (I) Academic Talents 

1. The applicants, upon being included into the long-term  "Thousand Talents Program" or the Class A of CAS Pioneer Hundred Talents Program (for academic talents), shall be entitled to the corresponding remuneration of the nation or the CAS (Consult the following contact for detailed information).  

2. The recruit shall be employed as a second-grade researcher by the Institute. 

3. The recruit shall be offered by the Institute a RMB 1million start-up research fund as well as supporting funding. 

4. The recruit shall be ensured with a supply of the office and research and experiment facilities, and granted the qualification for training postgraduates.  

5. The recruit shall be provided with housing during the period of employment (First come, first served). 

6. The recruit shall be helped with the children's schooling. 

7. The income shall be paid according to the Institute's regulations (Consult the contact for more information).  

(II) Technological Talents 

1. The applicants, upon being included into the Class B of CAS Pioneer Hundred Talents Program (for technological talents), shall be entitled to the corresponding remuneration of the CAS.  

2. The recruit shall be employed as a senior engineer at the researcher level.  

3. The recruit shall be offered by the Institute a RMB 700 thousand start-up research fund as well as supporting funding. 

4. The recruit shall be ensured with a supply of the office and research and experiment facilities, and granted the qualification for training postgraduates. 

5. The recruit shall be provided with housing during the period of employment (First come, first served). 

6. The recruit shall be helped with the children's schooling. 

7. The income shall be paid according to the Institute's regulations (Consult the contact for more information).  

(III) Promising Youth 

1. The applicants, upon being included into the Youth Thousand Talents Program or the Class C of CAS Pioneer Hundred Talents Program (for promising youth), shall be entitled to the corresponding remuneration of the nation or the CAS.  

2. Those included into the Youth Thousand Talents Program shall be employed as researchers and those into the Class C of CAS Pioneer Hundred Talents Program as associate researchers.   

3. Those included into the Youth Thousand Talents Program shall be offered by the Institute a RMB 400 thousand start-up research fund as well as supporting funding. 

4. The recruits shall be ensured with a supply of the office and research and experiment facilities, and granted the qualification for training postgraduates.  

5. The recruits shall be provided with housing during the period of employment(First come, first served). 

6. The recruits shall be helped with the children's schooling.  

7. The income shall be paid according to the Institute's regulations (Consult the contact for more information).  

III. Application Data 

1. Provide certificates of employment in and beyond China, and the photocopied diplomas; 

2. Those applying for positions of academic talents and promising youth shall submit the list of published papers (with the first author and correspondent marked) and the science citation index about the papers along with five full-text representative papers; 

3. The applicants for the positions of technological talents shall submit a proof of all their patents as well as the transformation into products.  

4. All other data deemed necessary by the applicants shall be submitted.  

IV. Selection Procedures 

The Institute shall firstly, according to the application data, decide whether the applicants are willing to apply to the Thousand Talents Program, the Youth Thousand Talents Program, and the CAS Pioneer Hundred Talents Program. If yes, the Institute shall help the applicants to apply to the above-mentioned programs and will recruit them if the application is approved.
