The workshop on “Climate Change over the Past Millennium: Connecting East Asia to the World” was held in Beijing on 25-26 Aug, 2011. The workshop was hosted by NSFC and CMA , and co-sponsored by CAMS, Institute of Earth Environment (IEE)/CAS, and IAP/CAS. The workshop was funded by NSFC project “Tree rings and Climate Change over the Past Millennium in China”. The project PI Academician Xiuji Zhou, team leaders Dr. Yu Liu of IEE, Dr. Ping Zhao of CMA and Dr. Tianjun Zhou of IAP, and Dr. Hans Linderholm of Univ. of Goldenberg, Dr. Bin Wang of Univ. Hawaii., Dr. Gilles Ramstein of LSCE, Dr. Takeshi Nakatsuka of Nagoya Univ. , Dr. Nicola Scafetta of Duke Univ. and about 40 scientists and postgraduate students attended the workshop.

The workshop has expanded the understanding of linkages between East Asia and global climate change over the past millennium within the context of proxy climate data reconstruction, data analysis, and numerical modeling. In particular, it has strengthened science exchanges among researchers who are interested in paleo-climate in the recent millennium or longer time scales, and promoted the opportunities of cooperation among worldwide climate research teams.
