Congratulations to Prof. Wu on being elected Honorary Member of the RMetS!

In the recent Council Meeting of Royal Meteorological Society, UK(RMetS) on Feb, 2012 in UK, Professor Guoxiong Wu was unanimously elected an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society. The Chief Executive of the RMetS, Prof. Paul Hardaker, formally informed Prof. Wu of the news and invited Prof. Wu to attend the Royal Meteorological Society’s Annual General Meeting where his Honorary Fellowship will be conferred on 16 May, 2012. The President of RMetS, Prof. Tim Palmer, sent an email congratulation, and commented that “this reflects both his enormous achievements on the international arena, and also his special connections to the UK”.

RMetS was founded as the British Meteorological Society in 1850. It’s one of the most influential and authoritative academic societies in the world. They Royal Meteorological Society has a small number of Honorary Fellows who are elected from time to time by Council. This is the highest recognition the RmetS can give for a distinguished service to meteorology. Prof/Academician Duzheng Ye and CAS foreign academican Prof. Brian Hoskins are also honorary members of RMetS.

Prof. Guoxiong Wu graduated from Nanjing Institute of Meteorology in 1966, received his doctorate in 1983 at London University Imperial College and worked as a visiting scientist at European Centre for Medium-Range Forecasts from 1983-1984. He returned to China and worked at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1985 and was elected the Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1997.
