The Cross-Strait Typhoon Cooperation Projects Symposium was held in Hunan

Date:2012-05-29

Project symposium of the National Natural Science Foundation (regional) cooperation and exchange programs of global warming on the western North Pacific typhoon activity and landing typhoons in China and its mechanism" was held in Hunan Province during April 26, 2012 - April 30. A total of more than 30 representatives from a number of US universities and research institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Academia Sinica, Taiwan Environmental Change Research Center, Taiwan Normal University Department of Earth Sciences, and some Taiwan Universities participated in this meeting. The meeting also invited the internationally renowned meteorologist Japan Frontier director of Professor Matsuno Taro, well-known German meteorologist the University of Cambridge, Professor Hans-Graf, University of Hawaii Professor and Professor Li Tim and Taiwan University Professor Sui Zhongxing giving Invited reports on the meeting.

Western North Pacific typhoon activity to cross-strait brought serious economic losses and casualties, so to carry out the global context of the western North Pacific tropical cyclone activity climatology study not only has important scientific significance, but also has important seasonal forecasts of tropical cyclone application value. Scientists carried out collaborative research, after more than two years of Cooperation achieved fruitful research results, the purpose of the meeting is to exchange the collaborative research results, and discuss the possibility of further cooperation.

Project Leader, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician Prof. Huang Ronghui , and Academy of Sciences and Academia Sinica, Taiwan Center for Environmental Changes, Dr.Zhou Jia attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The invited experts made reports; they introduced the high-resolution global models in different areas of research and operational applications, as well as the climatic characteristics of the western North Pacific typhoon activity and its impact of today's cutting-edge scientific issues Research Progress. Subsequently, all project members to turn on its commitment to research tasks , Since the launching of the project, the latest research advances in their respective areas of research. Cross-strait project members on the following aspects of the research progress report on the exchange: 1) the Pacific Northwest and its landfall in China typhoon decadal, interannual variation in the quarter; 2) numerical models of the climate of the western North Pacific typhoon activity before and after the water vapor balance of payments situation in the simulation; 3) change of the frequency of the different scales of the southeast coast of mainland and Taiwan rainfall and typhoon activities associated; 4) Western Pacific tropical wave activity and its relationship with typhoon activity; 5) tropical cyclones. All the participants had an active discussion and exchange on the latest research progress and ideas.
