Scientists meet to address haze pollution in China

Date:2014-09-28

The 5th national workshop on atmospheric boundary layer physics and atmospheric chemistry & 2014 LAPC (State Key Laboratory of Atmospheric Boundary Layer Physics and Atmospheric Chemistry, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences) annual meeting was held in Beijing on September 18-19, 2014. The theme of the workshop was secondary particles and haze pollution. The meeting attracted more than 210 experts, scholars and graduate students from 32 scientific institutions, including institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Fudan University.

LAPC Deputy director WANG Yuesi Wang chaired the opening ceremony. WANG Zifa, director of LAPC, introduced research projects, progress and achievements, domestic and international cooperation and exchange of LAPC laboratory, in recent five years. The remarkable progress made by LAPC in fields of atmospheric boundary layer physics and atmospheric chemistry, in particular, research of haze and air pollution, was acknowledged by all participants. During the two day meeting, researchers gave 13 invited lecture and 14 talks around the haze pollution research. They reported the new progress and highlights obtained in research of haze pollution in atmosphere, including pollution source and formation mechanism, physical and chemical characteristics of component, numerical simulation, forecast and warning of haze in atmosphere, and environmental, climatic and ecological effect of haze. These progress and achievements have major implications in research of haze pollution in China.
