2014 Annual Academic Meeting of LASG was held in Beijing

2014 Annual Academic Meeting of State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (LASG), Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences was held in Huairou Campus of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) on December 24-25th, 2014.
On behalf of LASG’s leading group, Dr. Lu Riyu, Deputy Director-General of IAP & Director of LASG summaried progress of LASG in 2014. He presented LASG’s scientific research and management work and proposed the prospect of future work in 2015, which will center on research progress and highlights of the four priority research areas, project application, building of talent teams, international organizations appointment, etc. During 2014, LASG has made a remarkable progress in the scientific research and laboratory management as follows:
1. Scientific Research: LASG has published 199 papers including 159 SCI papers; Prof. Wu Guoxiong was awarded “Tan Kah Kee Science Awards in Earth Sciences” in 2014, Dr. Huang Gang obtained “Lu Jia Xi” excellent teacher award, Dr. Ding Ruiqiang received “Early Career Scientist Awards of IUGG”, etc.
2. Community Services: Dr. Tianjun Zhou, Deputy-Director of LASG, has been elected as the Member of CLIVAR/GEWEX Monsoons Panel and the Member of WCRP SPARC SSG; he also has the honor to be the Associate Editor of Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society and the Editor of Oxford Research Encyclopedia, Climate Science.
3. Project Application: LASG members were granted by 1 State Key Program of National Natural Science of China, 2 Major Research Plan of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 International Cooperation Project and 12 scientific programs as well.
Next, Prof. Jianmin Xu from National Satellite Meteorological Center, China Meteorological Administration, Prof. Chongyin Li from PLA University of Science and Technology and Prof. Guoxiong Wu from IAP made the keynote talks in the meeting.
During the two days' meeting, there were over 400 representatives attended. They mainly came from the University of Hawaii, University of Florida, University of North British Columbia, affiliated departments of China Meteorological Administration, Institute of Oceanology, CAS, South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, CAS, Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, CAS, The Second Institute of Oceanography, SOA, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, Ocean University of China, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, University of Science and Technology of China, PLA University of Science and Technology, Sun Yat-Sen University, National Supercomputing Center of Tianjin, Computer Network Information Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences and leaders and experts and other colleagues from IAP.
The Academic Annual Meeting not only reviewed LASG’s research and management work throughout the year, but also accelerated its future affirmative development.
