AGU discussed cooperation with Chinese science community

American Geophysical Union (AGU) delegation, led by President Ms. Margaret Leinen, visited the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) on Mar. 30th, 2015. The Director General of Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Prof. ZHU jiang expressed the warmest welcome to AGU delegation and introduced IAP’s research focuses and progresses. Ms. Margaret Leinen introduced AGU's history, global development strategy, and important conferences and publications.   

Ms. Leinen acknowledged contribution from Chinese scientists to AGU conferences and publications.14% of the first authors of papers published in AGU journals are from China, in particular, 54% of these papers are contributed by scientists from Chinese Academy of Sciences, outnumbering other universities and research entities in China.   

Both parties had a discussion on how to improve the scientific cooperation in the field of climate change, enhance the presence of Chinese scientists at AGU meetings and raise visibility of Chinese papers in AGU publications.  

American Geophysical Union (AGU) is a global nonprofit Academic organization, which has more than 60,000 members come from 139 countries, AGU aims to to promote discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity and push the scientific cooperation and exchanges . The renowned once-a-year AGU Fall Meeting attracts nearly 24,000 Earth and space scientists, educators, students, policy makers, and other members of the community.
