China and Norway Celebrate 15th Anniversary of Joint Research Centre
Date:2018-04-19
The Nansen-Zhu International Research Centre (NZC) is a joint venture between Norway and China located at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IAP/CAS) in Beijing, China. 15 years after the establishing of the NZC, the Norwegian delegation led by Ms Iselin Nyb?, the minister of research and higher education visited the NZC on Apr. 17th 2018 for the celebration of 15-year scientific collaboration and education between China and Norway. The CAS delegation was led by the vice-president Academician ZHANG Yaping.
Academician ZHANG Yaping complimented on the NZC’s significant contribution to scientific collaboration and exchange between Norway and China. The CAS will continue to support the NZC to be a platform for strengthening the scientific collaboration on Arctic research.
Ms Iselin Nyb?, addressed in her speech that the climate change including the Arctic change, is a common challenge to the world and extensive international collaboration is needed. Over the past 15 years, the NZC has made valuable contributions to the Arctic-related scientific collaboration and training of young researchers and students. It has been demonstrated that the NZC is an excellent example for how to establish and strengthen the collaboration between China and Norway. e NZC is a joint venture between Norway and China located at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IAP/CAS) in Beijing, China. Nansen-Zhu Center was named in the honor and spirit of the distinguished scientists Fridtjof Nansen from Norway and Kezhen Zhu from China.
The overarching goal of the NZC is to make a significant contribution to climate research and training with emphasis on tropical and high-latitude regions, and the interactions between these regions, for past, present and future climate.
The NZC has six partners now: IAP/CAS, the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC), Bergen, Norway, the University of Bergen (UoB), Bergen, Norway, the Uni Research AS (Uni), Bergen, Norway, the Peking University (PKU), Beijing, China, and the Nanjing University (NJU), Nanjing, China. In 2014 the Nansen-Zhu Centre was awarded with the prestigious Chinese National Science Award for the theoretical and technological studies on climate prediction.
All representatives from the NZC partners attended the 15-year celebration seminars.
