CHENG Lijing is Awarded the WCRP/GCOS International Data Prize 2020

Dr CHENG Lijing, an associate professor with the Institute of Atmospheric Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IAP/CAS), has been awarded the World Climate Research Program (WCRP)/Global Climate Observing System (GCOS)International Data Prize 2020!

According to the Selection Committee, which consists of representatives from WCRP, GCOS and their joint panels, CHENG was selected because the committee was "greatly impressed by the strong profile of Dr. Cheng and the high quality of his contribution to the development and dissemination of climate data sets."
The WCRP and GCOS have established the Prize in recognition of the essential role of data sets in supporting climate science. The prize is awarded annually for an outstanding contribution to data product generation, data management, data preservation, data monitoring, and other data relevant activities by an early- to mid-career researcher.
CHENG received his PhD from IAP/CAS in 2014. He then worked in IAP/CAS as an associate professor. His work includes examination of systematic errors in ocean observations, study of historical ocean heat content (OHC) change, and Earth's energy budget. He is a lead author of United Nations - IPCC Special Report for Ocean and Cryosphere; United Nations - World Ocean Assessment. He's also a member of the WCRP core project Climate and Ocean: Variability, Predictability and Change (CLIVAR) Global Synthesis and Observations Panel.
