14 IAP scientists are included in the Reuters Hot List of 1000 climate academics released on April 20, 2021. They are ZHOU Tianjun, WU Bingyi, WU Renguang, YU Yongqiang, HUANG Gang, CHEN Wen, ZHENG Xunhua, ZHU Jiang, CHEN Shangfeng, ZHENG Fei, LIU Hailong, LIN Pengfei, SUN Jianqi, and LU Riyu.

The Hot List is a combination of three rankings: how many research papers scientists have published on topics related to climate change; how often those papers are cited by other scientists in similar fields of study, such as biology, chemistry or physics; and how often those papers are referenced in the lay press, social media, policy papers and other outlets.
