Scientists with the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) sent rockets into the sky and triggered lightning flashes in Shandong Province in July 2021. Lightning-triggering experiments can help to reveal the lightning discharge mechanism and its near-range electromagnetic effects. Every year, IAP organize a one-month summer campaign to investigate the causation of lightning disaster and test the lightning protection technology.
