The Sub-seasonal to Seasonal Project(S2S) under the World Meteorological Organization held a technical committee teleconference on February 28, 2023. Prof. BAO Qing and engineer CHEN Kangjun from the State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (LASG) at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) together with twelve committee members from Asia, Europe, and Oceania attended the meeting.
At the meeting, three major S2S data centers presented S2S archive status, and all model centers introduced model updates planned for 2023-2024. Participants also had in-depth discussions on technical issues concerning the S2S follow-up plans.
Dr. Frederic Vitart from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), the co-chair of the S2S project, gave a work report. He pointed out that since the data center at the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) of Columbia University started real-time operation, the IAP-CAS real-time prediction data contribution ranked among the top three, only next to ECMWF and the National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). In summary, the download of IAP-CAS model data was also highlighted.
The Sub-seasonal to Seasonal Project(S2S) was launched in November 2013 by WCRP/WWRP/THORPEX under the WMO Commission of Atmospheric Sciences. S2S holds a technical committee meeting annually.
