On June 8, 2023, Dr. Sarantuya, the Director of the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology, and Environment Information (IRIMHE) of Mongolia, along with a delegation of four, visited the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP).
Vice Director ZHOU Tianjun welcomed the Mongolian delegation and expressed warm greetings for their visit. Subsequently, ZHOU Tianjun and Dr. Sarantuya exchanged the "Framework Cooperation Agreement between the IAP, and the IRIMHE." This agreement aims to implement the important consensus between the leaders of the two countries and further enhance scientific and technological cooperation between the two institutes in various fields such as East Asian dust storms, climate change, and cold waves. The two parties exchanged views on holding annual joint academic exchange seminars, talent development, and hoped to advance their cooperation through these mechanisms. The meeting was attended by Dr. LIN Zhaohui, Director of the International Center for Climate and Environment Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence, as well as Dr. YAO Li, Director of the Science and Technology Department of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics. Researchers BUEH Cholaw, PENG Jingbei, WANG Geli, WU Chenglai, XIE Zuowei, and others were also present.
After the exchange ceremony of the "Framework Cooperation Agreement", a scientific seminar was held with a focus on "Cross-border Dust Storm Activities between China and Mongolia in Recent Years," hosted by Researcher BUEH Cholaw. Participants enthusiastically discussed the recent cross-border dust storm activities and put forward constructive viewpoints and suggestions. After the academic presentations, a roundtable discussion was held to further clarify the focus of future collaborative research, emphasizing data sharing, mechanism analysis, model improvement, and practical applications.
In early May of this year, Researcher BUEH Cholaw and a delegation of three from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics
visited IRIMHE in Ulaanbaatar, engaging in extensive exchanges on dust storm monitoring and research. This meeting further enhanced the communication and friendship between the two parties, and the signing of the framework cooperation agreement between the two institutes will strongly promote substantive cooperation. The improvement of cross-border dust storm monitoring, forecasting, and prevention capabilities between China and Mongolia will provide strong support for the sustainable development of the two countries' economy and society.
