University of Bergen Delegation Visits IAP's Zhu Kezhen-Nansen International Research Center

On October 20, 2025, a delegation from the University of Bergen (UiB), Norway, led by Vice-Rector Prof. Kristoffer Chelsom Vogt, visited the Nansen-Zhu Kezhen (NZC) International Research Center at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The high-level visit aimed to build upon the two institutions' robust 20-year partnership and to strategize future in-depth collaboration in scientific research and talent development.
The meeting was chaired by Prof. Lu Riyu, Secretary of the Party Committee of IAP. The opening ceremony began with a warm welcome address from Academician Wang Huijun, founder of the Center, who reflected on the long and fruitful history of cooperation between IAP and UiB. In his response, Vice-Rector Prof. Vogt expressed that the University of Bergen highly values the strategic partnership with its Chinese counterparts and looked forward to elevating the collaboration to new heights through this visit. Representatives from the Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS, also addressed the attendees, affirming the productive outcomes of the Sino-Norwegian collaboration and pledging continued support for such high-level international exchanges.

During the introductory session, IAP Director Prof. Jiang Dabang provided a comprehensive overview of the Institute's development history, disciplinary structure, and international cooperation landscape. Prof. Sun Jianqi then detailed the Center's evolution and the broader scope of Sino-Norwegian exchanges over the past two decades. Prof. Yan Qing shared a personal perspective, highlighting the pivotal role the Norway-China collaboration played in his own academic growth. A group photo session followed the presentations.
A subsequent closed-door meeting featured in-depth and constructive discussions on deepening future cooperation. Both parties reached a consensus on key initiatives, including jointly applying for Sino-Norwegian bilateral research projects and enhancing the exchange of early-career scientists and postgraduate students.
This high-level visit not only reinforced the enduring friendship between NZC/IAP and the University of Bergen but also charted a clear roadmap for future collaboration. Both institutions expressed their commitment to using this visit as a new starting point for building a more stable, profound, and efficient platform for scientific research and talent exchange.
