Recently, Dr. Xu Peiqiang, Associate Professor at the Monsoon System Research Center, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been selected as a member of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP)-Global Extremes Platform (GEP) Contact Group and appointed as a Co-chair of the Contact Group.

The WCRP-GEP focuses on scientific questions related to weather and climate extreme events. It is dedicated to promoting communication and collaboration across WCRP activities, advancing relevant research, and facilitating the sharing and application of methods and data products. The Contact Group is established for early-career scientists interested in extremes research. Its members are nominated by WCRP Core Projects and Lighthouse Activities, with the aim of strengthening communication and coordination on extreme-event research within the WCRP community.

Dr. Xu's appointment followed his nomination as a member of the Contact Group by WCRP sub-programmes. Going forward, he will work with fellow members of the Contact Group to support the Platform's activities, focusing on cross-programme information exchange and collaboration needs.
