The 3rd Sino-German Workshop on Air Quality and Health was Successfully Held in Beijing and Lanzhou

 

The 3rd Sino-German workshop on air quality and health 2011 Beijing was successfully held in Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IAP-CAS), from May 5th to May 7th. During May 8th to May 10th, part of the delegation went to Lanzhou University for the sub-meeting of the conference, with a scientific expedition in Lanzhou and Dunhuang. More than thirty experts and researchers attended the conference. Foreign experts and researchers came from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, Helmholtz Centre Munich, Bergische University Wuppertal, and Graz University of Technology.

At the beginning of the conference, the Associate director of IAP, Prof. Dr. Zhu Jiang, the director of Chinesisch-Deutsche Zentrum für Wissenschaftsförderung, Prof. Dr. Chen Lesheng, gave a welcome speech. Prof. Dr. Zhu Jiang introduced the history and international cooperation status of IAP to the delegation.Prof. Dr. Zhu Jiang and Prof. Dr. Chen Lesheng encouraged scientists to work in deeply cooperation in the fields of environment and climate change, looking forward to the achievements of the cooperation.

Scientists gave the presentations covering the fields of air quality, climate change, environment and health, etc.Students participated the conference were absorbed in these wonderful presentations and discussed with scientists actively. Further more, colleagues of the two sides introduced research developments of our international cooperation during the past year, discussed about further cooperation plan frames in the future, and came up with some agreements. We will investigate in knowledge about traffic emissions and its development, feedback mechanisms climate change and air quality, and consequences to human health. Only this common understanding allows investigations in future developments and it will be the advice for decision makers to improve air quality and to control climate change.
