The‘Cross-strait symposium of young scholars of atmospheric sciences and the fiftieth anniversary of cross-strait exchange seminar’ was jointly held on October 28 – November 4, 2011, at Chinese Cuture University, Taipei, Taiwan. Cross-strait exchange of young scholars of atmospheric sciences has been conducted for 15 years and the scholar symposium has been successfully held more than 10 times, since the mainland acdemic delegaion’s first visit to Taiwan in 1997 and Taiwan acdemic delegation’s first visit to the mainland in 1998.

The meeting was organized by Chinese Culture University, attended by a total of 33 teachers and students of mainland delegation from Institute of Atmospheric Sciences, Chinese Academy Scicenses; Chinese Meteorological Administration; Peking University; Nanjing University; University of Science and Technology of China; Sun Yat-sen University; Lanzhou University; Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology; Yunnan University and Chengdu University of Information Technology. In addition, young scholars and students from National Taiwan University; National Central University and National Taiwan Normal University also participated in the academic exchanges.

The participants reviewed and prospected the cross-strait academic exchanges of young scholars, and said high of the acdemic achievement exchange and the deepen cooperation in scientific research.

The young participants launched a full exchange centered on the academic directions of different issues, especially on typhoons, rainstorms, monsoon and meteorological services. Besides scientific research exchange, the participants also developed mutual understandings and cultivated friendships in a short time.
