The 6th International Conferences on Atmospheric Physics,

The 6th International Conferences on Atmospheric Physics, Climate and Environment was held in Xi'an on Nov.2-4, 2011. This conference is organized within the activity of the Joint Laboratory of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IAP CAS) and the A.M. Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IAP RAS) to exchange experiences and strengthen cooperation in the field of atmospheric sciences and climate change between China and Russia.

This conference was a high-level international discussion between Chinese and Russian scientists. The most important topics discussed in three days included: Atmospheric Physics, Climate and climate change, Atmospheric Environment.

IAP CAS Prof. Pucai Wang introduced that The Differential Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS) is becoming a very important and effective technique of monitoring principal atmospheric compositions such as NO2 and SO2, while Multiple Axis Differential Absorption Spectroscopy (MAX-DOAS) is effective for ground-based measurement. MAX-DOAS is widely applied in monitoring of air mass quality because of its low price, stable operation, easy maintain, and reliable data products. IAP RAS Prof. A. S. Emilenko’s presentation showed that by the spectropolarimetric measurements of 1996-2010, the evolution of smog in Beijing is describes. The observations results present that the most extremely turbidized events happened in Beijing are registered in 1999, 2009 and 2010. IAP CAS prof. Meigen Zhang introduced that the modeling system WRF-Chem is used to investigate the aerosol impacts on clouds, temperature and precipitation in summer over East Asia. The result shows that the anthropogenic aerosols increases cloud droplet number concentration and decreases cloud effective radius. The temperature, precipitation is decreased and increased.

All the participants actively got involved in the three days's communication and discussion; both sides agreed that they will draft scientific research cooperation MOU for further collaboration. The next International Conferences will be held in Russia 2012.
