Johannessen, leader of Nansen Group; Prof. Eystein Jansen Director of Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research; Prof. Prof. Nils Gunnar Kvamstø , director of the Geophysical Institute (GFI), University of Bergen (UoB); Prof. Tore Furevik (GFI/UoB); Prof. Benkui Tan (Peking University, PKU), all staff and students from NZC and students from Department of Atmospheric Science at PKU, at total of around 50 people joined the meeting.  Twelve scientific presentations were all given by young scientists at the NZC focused on the climate variability and change in Asia, sea level rise, climate teleconnection between East Asia and Arctic/Atlantic and seasonal-interannual climate forecast.

The achievement of the NZC provides a very good example of active and fruitful China-Norway collaboration despite differences in history and culture between the countries.

The NZC is a non-profit joint venture located at the IAP/CAS in Beijing, China. Representatives from the Chinese and Norwegian authorities formally opened the Nansen-Zhu Centre on November 4th 2003. The Centre is based on an Agreement of Understanding between IAP/CAS, Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC) and UoB on August 7th 2001, and a Memorandum of understanding between IAP/CAS, NERSC, UoB and PKU on November 5th 2002.
