The Tan Kah Kee Science Awards 2014 & the Tan Kah Kee Young Scientist Awards 2014 is announced on December 16, 2013, Beijing. The award ceremony will be held on June 2014, at the General Assembly of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
The project of “The Influence of Mechanical and Thermal Forcing by the Tibetan Plateau on Asian Summer Monsoon and Climate” gets the Tan Kah Kee Science Award in Earth Sciences. This study made original contribution to the insight understanding of the Asian Monsoon and climate change affected by the Tibetan Plateau. The winner is Professor Guoxiong Wu who comes from State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Tan Kah Kee Science Award Foundation (TSAF), a national nonprofit foundation and an independent legal entity, funded by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Bank of China (BOC), was formally registered and established in February. Tan Kah Kee Science Award, formerly known-as Tan Kah Kee Award established in 1988, was set up by the Foundation and was named after Mr. Tan Kah Kee (1874-1961), a renowned overseas Chinese leader who had remarkably contributed to the development of science and education in China. It is aimed to award the living Chinese citizens who have made significant S&T achievements which were recognized as innovative and original in recent years.
