Editors of two international journals hosted by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP)/CAS, Advances in Atmospheric Sciences (AAS), and Atmospheric and Oceanic Science Letters (AOSL), attended 2014 Thomson Reuters ScholarOne Chinese Users’ Conference held in Chengdu, China on 26-27 June 2014. The theme of the conference is "Increase the International Impact of Your Journal”.  The Vice-president of Thomson Reuters, Jasper Simons and editors from international journals hosted by Chinese institutes gave reports on how to increase journals’ impact. All the editors also had hands-on session of a new version of ScholarOne Editorial Management System.

Since 2011, AAS and AOSL have started using ScholarOne peer-review management system which provided users with the best possible experience during the peer-review process. In 2014, AAS and AOSL installed ScholarOne’s new function—Reviewer Locator, a solution that uses cutting-edge technology to search the world’s most trusted source of scholarly data, Web of Science, and returns uniquely qualified peer reviewer recommendations. The editors of AAS and AOSL are pleased to find that “Reviewer Locator” greatly expedited reviewer selection process and that most reviewers are likely to accept review invitation because of the highly relevant study to be reviewed. These reviewers, mostly from the international research community, become potential authors and therefore the journal’s profile is also raised.  

Since the launch of AAS and AOSL, with the support of CAS Bureau of Science Communication and IAP, AAS and AOSL have been active in using international resources to develop the quality of journals and increase journal’s international profile. AAS currently has the highest impact factor among all the meteorological journals based in Asia.
