IAP Delegation Attended AOGS 11th Annual Meeting

Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) 2014/11th Annual Meeting and Geosciences World Community Exhibition was held in Sapporo, Japan, 28 July-1 August, which brought together more than 3000 experts from 55 countries from all continents. Delegates from China occupied 9% (more than 200 people) in the Asia & Oceania regions. This year’s theme is “Improving our understanding of the genesis of hazards through scientific, social and technical approaches”.

AOGS was established in 2002 and registered in Singapore. It is a nongovernmental organization and formed by like-minded individuals to promote geophysical science and public benefits for Asia and Oceania. Nowadays, Asia and Oceania holds the largest population and is still rapidly developing in the world. There are unique scientific issues to discover and understand in a region that is more diverse than any other regions. AOGS strives to remain in touch with and contribute to the geophysical world community through cooperation with EGU, AGU and IUGG.

AOGS 2014 included 1 general assembly and 176 sessions. Scientists from IAP delegation Academician/Prof. WU Guoxiong, Academician/Prof. MU Mu, Prof. LIU Yimin, Prof. REN Rongcai, Prof. LI Shuanglin, Prof. ZHANG Meigen, and Prof. XU Yongfu delivered exciting presentations and stimulated vibrant discussions. Prof. DUAN Wansuo Duan, Prof. CHEN Zeyu, Prof. AILIKUN and Prof. ZHENG Fei acted as the session convenors in different research fields. Besides, a series of business meetings and Axford Lectures were held during the meeting.

Under the leadership of Academician/Prof. CHEN Yuntai, Vice-President of AOGS, CNC-IUGG has applied for holding the AOGS 2016 conference, which have been approved by the State Council of P.R. China and application materials have been sent to the AOGS Secretariat. Academician CHEN was elected as the next President (2014-2016) of AOGS in the last June.
