Friends and students celebrate 60 years' research of Prof. Zeng Qingcun

Students, colleges and friends of CAS academician Prof. Zeng Qingcun, a famous Chinese atmospheric scientist, gathered to celebrate his 80th birthday  and held an international symposium on “Atmospheric Dynamics and the Earth System Modeling International Conference” on 12 December, 2014 in Beijing. The symposium reviewed the main achievements of Prof. Zeng, and focused on the current status, development, future of atmospheric dynamics and the earth system modeling. Ten presentations covered meteorological disaster forecast, earth system modeling and atmospheric infrared remote sensing fields. More than 200 people attended this meeting.

Dr. Yu Rucong , vice administrator of CMA read the congratulation letter from the administrator, Dr. Zheng Guoguang,  and reviewed the 60 years’ contribution Prof. Zeng made to the development of meteorological career. Prof. Huang Ronghui  talked about Prof. Zeng’s foresight and persistence in science. Mr. ZHANG Chaolin from National Natural Science Foundation(NSFC) of China complimented Prof. Zeng’s performance in basic theory and cutting edge science development, especially his brilliant teaching achievements. Prof. Zeng's students have become established scientists, including six NSFC "Outstanding Young Scientist" award winners and two CAS Academicians. The speakers also fondly told interesting stories of Prof. Zeng’s simple life-style, modesty and innovation in science.

Prof. Zeng delivered a speech at the end of the birthday symposium. He thanked everyone for their coming and expressed his confidence in future science yields. He put his hope on younger scientists to achieve “Chinese science dream”.
