The 2014 Annual Meeting of National Key Basic Research and Development Program (973) "Dynamic-microphysical-electrical processes in severe thunderstorms and lightning hazards" held in Beijing

On January 19-20 of 2015, the 2014 annual meeting of National Key Basic Research and Development Program  (973) "Dynamic-microphysical-electrical processes in severe thunderstorms and lightning hazards" was held in Beijing.   The meeting was chaired by the chief scientist, Dr. Xiushu Qie.  Attendees include advisory experts of the project, representatives from Chinese National Science Foundation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Meteorological Bureau, and Beijing Institute of Urban Meteorology, as well as the research team of the project.

On the meeting of January 19, the principal investigators of six sub-projects reported the annual progress with the work in 2014 and the research plan for the next year.   The experts affirmed the implementation of coordinated observation in Beijing over the past year, as well as the achievements on the understanding of dynamics, microphysics, electrical process, and early warning and forecasting methods for disaster making meteorological weather systems.  It is desired that the research outcome can be integrated with the business application by the meteorological service department.  Meanwhile, the experts made several guidance and advice on the difficult issues in the project, and pointed out the importance of strengthening further experimental observations.  They also emphasized the communication between different research groups of the project.

On the next day, the research team of the Storm973 program discussed the suggestions of experts, and made up a detailed research plan for the work in 2015.  After the discussion, several research members reported their individual progress regarding different aspects of the program.
