The Annual Conference of the State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modelling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (LASG) was held in Beijing from 3 to 5 December 2018 in Beijing.
LASG deputy director Prof. XIE Zhenghui presided over the opening ceremony. Dr. DUAN Xiaonan, Earth Science Division Chief of the Bureau of Frontier Sciences &Education, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Prof. ZHU Jiang IAP Director General gave opening remarks. The conference started with LASG director Prof. XIAO Ziniu’s overview report on LASG work summary in 2018. He presented LASG major progresses in all aspects and introduced 2019 work plan. In 2018, LASG achieved impressive progress in research, funding application and capacity building. Academic exchange remained active throughout the year. 247 papers were published in academic journals, among which 193 were SCI indexed papers. 65% of these SCI papers were published in journals with impact factor above 3. In 2019, LASG will continue to focus on model development, cooperation with localities, openness and exchange, talents cultivation and try its utmost to prepare for next national assessment.
The scientific program consisted of 65 oral talks and 39 posters. Presentations were organized into one-day plenary session with two-day parallel sessions themed Earth system modeling, climate dynamics, ocean dynamics, ENSO dynamics, land-air interaction, model development, land surface process, modelling and parameterization, model analysis. The talks covered a variety of reports on frontier as well as latest findings in atmospheric science.
Over 300 scientists and students joined the conference. Participants came from CAS institutes, universities, affiliated departments of China Meteorological Administration, and overseas organizations including Hawaii University USA and University of Northern British Columbia, Canada. The meeting had been broadcast online. More than 600 people watched the live.
Prior to the annual meeting on the afternoon of 3 December, LASG Open research program assessment meeting was held. Each program undertaker reported on his work in the last year. Assessment panel reviewed the implantation of each program and proposed on future plan.
