The Forecast Discussion on summer climate over China was held in the Institute of Atmospheric Physics in March 24th 2015. The institute heads, the prediction experts and relevant researchers of the International Center for Climate and Environment Sciences (ICCES), Infrastructure and technical support, Nansen-Zhu International Research Center (NZC) and the State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (LASG) joined the discussion.
Chaired by Prof. Bueh Cholaw, discussions focused on the issues of the observational sea surface temperature anomalies in the Middle and Eastern Pacific and the Western Pacific Warm Pool, the snow cover over the Tibetan Plateau, and the Northern Eurasian fresh snow extent in the previous autumn and winter. The IAP AGCM 4.1 of ICCES provided the summer climate prediction for the first time. The Forum discussed the outputs from various climate system models and statistical methods and used these outputs to produce a most likely seasonal climate outlook for China for summer (June-July-August) of 2015. In addition, several suggestions on the prediction methods and predictors had been discussed. --Reported by ICCES
